Yes Buzzonbroad.com covers college basketball and I am going to do something new with the college basketball section. For now on when all the city 6 teams play over the weekend I am going to wrap-up all the games in one article for all the college basketball fans out there.
With that being said let's take a look at the games from January 4, 2013 to January 6, 2013.
On Saturday most of the City 6 teams were in action including La Salle taking on UPenn at Tom Gola Arena in a Big 5 matchup and Drexel already starting conference play.
UPenn vs. La Salle: The Explorers went on to defeat the Quakers 74-57 in a Big 5 matchup that had the likes of Phillies president David Montgomery and former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell in attendance. La Salle went out and dominated the Quakers from the opening tip.
Top performers from the game were:
La Salle: Tyreek Duren 17 points, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks
UPenn: Dau Jok 8 points, 11 rebounds, and 1 block
The Explorers record now stands at 10-3 while the Quakers are now 2-11 on the season.
St. Joes vs. Morgan State: The Hawks increased their winning streak to three games as they defeated the Bears 70-60 before Atlantic 10 conference play kicks off this week.
Top performers from the game were:
St. Joes: Carl Jones 17 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds
Morgan State: Dwayne Jackson 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists
The Hawks are 8-4 on the season and start Atlantic 10 play Wednesday night as they take on the Butler Bulldogs at Hagan Arena.
Towson vs. Drexel: The Dragons dismal season continues as they fell to the Tigers 69-66 at the DAC. Things have not gone Drexel's way this season as they had a horrible shooting day versus Towson which ultimately doomed them.
Top performers from the game were:
Towson: Jerrelle Benimon 18 points and 16 rebounds
Drexel: Derrick Thomas 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists
The Dragons record is now 5-9 and they are 1-1 in CAA play. Tomorrow, the Dragons will take on Northeastern at DAC at 7:00 pm.
That was all the action from Saturday in the City 6. Yesterday, there was only one team in action and that was the Temple Owls who took on the number six team in the nation in the Kansas Jayhawks. The Owls would give a valiant effort but fall 69-62.
Top performers from the game were:
Temple: Khalif Wyatt 26 points and 4 rebounds
Kansas: Kevin Young 16 points and 10 rebounds
The Owls record is now 10-3 on the season and will kick off Atlantic 10 conference play on Thursday versus Xavier.
Finally, I did not forget Villanova who did not play this weekend instead they played last Wednesday and defeated St. John's 98-86. In that game, Nova's freshman guard Ryan Arcidiacono had 32 points. The Wildcats record is 10-4 and they are riding a six game winning streak.
The next time Nova plays will be on Wednesday when they go on the road to take on the South Florida Bulls. This game can be seen on ESPN3 at 8:00 pm.
