It is getting closer and closer to Thanksgiving, and Philadelphia hasn't heard a peep out of Ruben Amaro Jr...until now. At the GM meetings, Ruben wasn't expecting to make any major moves, but maybe lay the groundwork. On Thursday night, the Phillies general manager did just that, as he has been communicating with outfielder B.J. Upton's agent.
With Josh Hamilton and former Phillie Michael Bourn looking for the big bucks, Upton may be a better option for the Phillies. The 28 year old center fielder is a right handed bat, which the Phillies desperately need. Upton is a free agent, and could be a perfect fit for the Phillies. Upton hit 28 homers, 78 RBI's, and a .246 batting average.
Amaro also said he was having some conversations about trades. The meetings could help Amaro find the three key pieces he is looking for, a right handed center fielder, a third baseman, and a late inning reliever. Amaro stated that in the several conversations he has had at the meetings, more have been about trades.
