The Philadelphia 76ers announced today that center Andrew Bynum will sit out for 21 days or the equivilancy to three weeks and will be withheld from basketball activity for that period of time. Bynum is still, however, allowed to participate in low level conditioning practices but they sat him out to maximize his surgery in Germany.
Bynum, 7-foot, 285lbs, was born outside of Philadephia in North Jersey and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the regular season. Altohugh he has the opportunity to test the free agent market, Bynum is looking to stay in the Philadelphia area due to the warm reception he received in early July at the press conference at the Constitution Center.
The Sixers will be a force in the Atlantic Division this season if the big man can stay healthy, however everything is dependent now upon his health and how well his knees hold up.
Bynum averaged career highs of 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds last season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
