Prior to the NHL Lockout, members of the Philadelphia Flyers were at the team's practice facility in Voorhees, NJ cleaning out their lockers (photo courtesy of Zack Hill). The players now consider all options in staying on the ice during their work stopage.
Many players around the league will be headed oversees for the duration of the lockout. Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov may likely be spending some time playing in Russia. Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell could be lacing up the skates for KalPa, a Finnish team that the two own.
It even appears that NHL13 cover boy Claude Giroux will be finding somewhere to play during the lockout.
A few of the younger members of the Flyers are lucky enough to have a guarenteed gig that will keep them in the States.
Flyers' GM Paul Holmgren has officially released a list of twenty-six players that will be headed 283 miles north of Philly to join the Phantoms.
That list includes Sean Couturier, Erik Gustafsson, Brayden Schenn, Eric Wellwood and Zac Rinaldo. None of these players needed to clear waivers to join the Phantoms (AHL).
On Thursday, Danny Syvret and Matt Ford cleared waivers and will also join the Flyers farm team.
You can expect to see all of these players on September 29 when the Phantoms training camp opens in Voorhees.
Flyers' prospects Nick Cousins, Scott Laughton, and Derek Mathers have also been assigned to their junior teams.
