The first two series of the Phillies 2013 regular season schedule has been revealed, as reported by Inquirer's Matt Gelb. The season begins on the road for the Fightin's, playing a three-game series down in Turner Field against the Atlanta Braves beginning on April 2. The Phillies will also close out the season in Atlanta.
On April 5th, the Phillies return to Philadelphia. There will be a twist, however, as for the first time, the home-opener will be against an American League opponent- the Kansas City Royals.
With each league containing 15 teams, as the Houston Astros will make the move to the American League West following the 2012 season, a year-round interleague schedule is necessary. The Phillies, according to Gelb, will play 21 interleague games next season, 6 more than this year.
The White Sox and Indians are also expected to play at Citizens Bank Park in 2013, while the Phillies will make the trip out to Minnesota, Cleveland and Detroit. In addition, the Red Sox and Phillies will play a four-game "home and home" series, with each team having two games in the respective ballparks within the same week.
The full schedule will be revealed some time next month.
