The newly constructed Target Field, home to the Minnesota Twins, has been awarded the 2014 MLB All-Star Game.
The Chicago Cubs were the other team in the running for hosting the event, but commissioner Bud Selig has made it known that he would like to keep the alternating National League-American League sites each year. 2014 will be the centennial of Wrigley Field, which opened in 1914 under the title of Weeghman Park.
Next year's All-Star festivities is set to be held at New York's Citi Field, home of the Mets. The Kansas City Royals hosted this year's game at Kauffman Stadium. The Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals are the front-runners to host the game in 2015.
The Twins last hosted the Mid-Summer Classic in 1985 at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
